Oyster Eve Chef Corry Hudson of Hook's

My name is Corry Hudson.  Here is a quick overview of my life and my accomplishments as a chef, restaurant owner and a husband. I was born on May 2, 1983 in St. George Bermuda.  My father was a Navy Seabee and was stationed in different cities; therefore I was raised in Maryland, Florida, and Long Beach, MS.  We remained on the coast since I was in the 5th grade.  My first job in the restaurant industry was at Chappy’s Seafood Restaurant in Long Beach, MS.  I am appreciative of the experience I gained and also it was the place I met my wife Laura.  I started as a bus boy at the age of 16 and worked my way up to a head server position.  After working as a server for 5 years, I wanted to see what the kitchen side of the industry was like.  In 2004, I applied to the culinary arts program at the University of Southern Mississippi.  This program was great, Anita Huey taught us the basics and a good foundation to start with.  With that foundation, I was able to build my skills with the help of other chefs I worked under.  I worked for a couple of local chefs along the coast after I graduated.  In February of 2012, I finally got the opportunity to venture out on my own. Laura shared my interest and has always been by backbone and support.  My first thought was to get in touch with my good friend Reuben Hanberry, who graduated culinary school with me.  After school, Reuben went straight to Vail, Co, where he worked under some amazing chefs.  He was able to move down to the coast and become my head chef and help with his creative culinary skills.  In April of 2012, I opened Hook Gulf Coast Cuisine.  Hook specializes in creating dishes using fresh seafood right out of the Gulf, local produce, and house made sauces and dressings.  We do offer chicken dishes and even a 12oz Ribeye but, I try to focus on seafood.  The gulf is right in my backyard; why not take advantage of that?  We offer a private room for parties and we have an outside deck where you can feel the gulf breeze and enjoy a delicious meal and beverage.  On the first Saturday of the month we also have a band playing on the deck.  I am very happy to have a restaurant in Pass Christian and love to see the city grow more and more.  My dream is and always has been that Hook Gulf Coast Cuisine will be a staple along our beautiful gulf coast.  We look forward to a long future here in Pass Christian, MS.
