PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - Pass Christian's first ever Oyster Festival kicked off Saturday. Organizers say they wanted to show off what the city has offer visitors as well as honor the area's rich seafood heritage.

The event features lots of great food, rides and entertainment.

Organizers say they're already looking forward to bigger and better Oyster festivals in the coming years.

"We've been working on this for about a year and a half, two years, and we have 68 booths here. And we're very impressed with that, but we're shooting for 100 next year," said organizer Renee Brooks. "Every year, we want to grow. There's so much to offer here in Pass Christian. Come on down to the festival."

Of course, no festival would be complete without a queen.

High school student Lauren Jenkins was crowned Pearl Of the Pass with Nancy Butler and Emily McDermott as runner-ups.

The Oyster Festival continues Sunday from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm with a 5k run and live music.
